Castle Rock, Simonstown, Cape Town South Africa

Coastal Verandah architecture is ubiquitous, and this house is no exception, perched on a really steep slope backdropped against high cliffs while looking out across the ocean.  The building curves gentle with the hillside contours and coated with a gray tiled roof to match the cliffs behind. Many of the tiles were hand cut to take up the curve. There’s an easy flow between inside and out, and between the mezzanine floor and the living room’s double volume, as one space leads seamlessly into the other. It’s got the mood that invites you to put your feet up and relax, to be open and chat freely, to feel at home.
